MB Gov. Release: ANGLING SEASON IN MANITOBA
Manitoba residents and tourists will have outstanding opportunities to catch walleye, channel catfish, goldeye, northern pike, white bass, lake trout and yellow perch when the 2008 Manitoba angling season opens this month, Water Stewardship Minister Christine Melnick said today. \"Manitoba anglers and our visitors will soon be able to start another banner year of recreational fishing on our 100,000 lakes as well as check out opportunities on our rivers and streams,\" said Melnick. \"Our angling licence fees remain among the lowest in the country while at the same time supporting the protection of our fisheries.\" Fishing in southern division waters starts May 10, while opening day for the general angling season in the northwest and north central divisions is May 17. In addition, on Family Fishing weekend June 7 and 8, there will be free fishing as well as free admission to provincial parks. Licence fees for 2008, subject to GST, are: - resident, conservation licence - $13.28; - resident, regular licence - $18.89; - Canadian resident, conservation licence - $21,69; - Canadian resident, regular licence - $40.38; - non-resident, conservation licence - $31.04; - non-resident, regular licence - $54.40; and - senior resident, conservation licence - free. Licences are available at hundreds of businesses throughout the province and at Manitoba Conservation offices. Recreational fishing includes angling, spear fishing, bow fishing, dip netting, seining and minnow trapping. Other angling-related events this year include: - The Manitoba Recreational Fishing League, May 19 to the week ending June 29, offered by the Manitoba Wildlife Federation, Recreation Connections and Berkley Canada.
